HUMANS OF MURWILLUMBAH | PART NINE

JASON & WILLOW

Jason and Willow are the proud owners of Paradise Living Co, a charming boutique located in Murwillumbah. Since its establishment in 2017, Paradise Living has been a family-run business dedicated to offering authentic furniture and homewares. They prioritise the use of natural, raw, and sustainable materials, ensuring that each item enhances the beauty and atmosphere of your living space. Their commitment extends to working with families, artisans, and ethical manufacturers in the tropics, sourcing raw materials and handcrafting pieces that resonate with their personal values. Each product carries the distinctive marks of its craftsmanship, resulting in unique items that come with captivating stories.

  1. What brought you to Murwillumbah and what do you love most about living in town or in the surrounding areas? Jason was on the hunt for a lifestyle change and bought Chozen Surf in 2007 and moved over from Western Australia. Jason met Willow in Byron Bay, and then both of them moved to the area in  2009. We love our friendly town and all the beauty that area has to offer, we love the location close to Gold Coast but far enough away.

  2. What inspired you to start your business in Murwillumbah? We started our second business, Paradise Living Co, in 2017, we were in the process of renovating and styling our first home and became interested in home design and interiors. We thought we would try a container load of furniture and homewares from Bali, to test the waters for a new business opportunity. Murwillumbah received it so well and the business has grown from there. Now we are more of a destination store. People come from everywhere, Adelaide to Brisbane, to shop with us. We ship all around Australia, from little old Murwillumbah.

  3. Can you share a story about a time when the Murwillumbah community came together to support one another? The 2022 flood was an insane event in our story so far. Our three buildings in Murwillumbah were well and truly wet. We lost a lot of stock. But we were not alone. We were so blessed to have the community support us in the clean-up. We were overwhelmed with gratitude at the time and still tear up at the thought of all the hundreds of volunteers that came in their gumboots to help clean up all the mud and debris from our building day after day.

  4. What are some spots in town that you would recommend to visitors? We love Wild Thyme Cafe & Tweed River House & all the cool little retail stores. We also love the creeks, swimming holes, and rain forest walks you can find just outside Murwillumbah.

  5. How do you envision the future of Murwillumbah? Murwillumbah is that beautiful mixed blend of country and alternative lifestyle. We would love to see South Murwillumbah, particularly Prospero Street, become its own Little pocket of uniqueness, building off Paradise Living co, Encora and the Rail Trail.
